The Hills Golf Course, Queenstown

The Hills, located just out of Arrowtown, was built by Sir Michael Hill (of Michael Hill Jewellers) which reflects the quality and his distinct eye for detail that has made The Hills something special. The current home of the NZ Open where leading Australasian PGA players and celebrities enjoyed walking the fairways. Even the players were in awe of the landscape and touches that make The Hills unique.

A key feature of the Hills are the elevated tees, making for longer tee shots but also allowing the golfer to take in the panoramic vistas around them. The golf course is playable by all levels of golfers and the conditioning is always first class.

Dotted around the golf course are twelve unique sculptures and pieces of art created by Michael Hill’s son, Mark, and other well known artists.  Mark specialises in forged and welded steel sculptures that add to the beauty of the course.

Amongst the stunning scenery and unique art, you can not avoid having a wonderful day. The clubhouse won the “Supreme Award for Architecture” when it was built and is unique in itself. Members have been known to hit golf balls off the grass roof on to the 18th green!
